Mustache March at Lassen High School – Lassen’s Associated Student Body will be sponsoring Mustache March, a mustache growing competition, to raise money for two local veterans organizations, Blue Star Moms and the Susanville VFW.

“Mustache March came about from a period of time where we were losing a lot of pilots who were being shot down in Vietnam,” explains LHS Administrative Assistant Kelli Hanson. “Col. Robin Olds was a triple ace pilot and a leader in Operation Bolo. He has been given credit for basically starting up Mustache March and helped in creating a feeling of invincibility amongst the airmen of having what was known as a “bullet proof” mustache.”

Mustaches will be judged in five categories:
Students
1. Pre-existing conditions (Those who barely have any facial hair and will take till next year to actually grow a mustache)
2. Clean shaven
Adult
1. Staff
2. Parents
3. Community Members

“On March 31st,” says Hanson, “we will have the judging of the event and naming the winner for each category. If you are interested in participating we are looking at a $5 donation.”

The winner of the mustache competition will get their money back and the honor of having the “best” mustache in Susanville.

There will also have a Grand Prize trophy for the student and adult category. If you are also willing to let a student use a pair of clippers to cut off your mustache, please let us know.
