Lassen County Sheriff Implementing New COVID-19 Precautions

In response to the Governor’s stay at home order the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office is implementing several measures to ensure the safety and welfare of our community as well as the continuity of essential services.

“With regard to dispatch services,” explains Lassen County Sheriff Dean Growdon, “if a call for service requires a physical response from a law enforcement officer, dispatchers will be asking the caller a series of screening questions to determine risk so that appropriate precautions can be taken on site. All non-emergency calls will be handled by phone whenever possible.”

The Sheriff’s Office will be out in full force patrolling the community to ensure the safety of citizens and their property. Anyone observing suspicious activity is encouraged to call dispatch and make a report.

“Although we are limiting person to person contact with the public, we are still conducting proactive patrols and maintaining a strong presence in our communities,” said Growdon.

The front office will limit civil services to evictions and temporary restraining orders only. All other processes can be mailed in. Livescans and fingerprinting are suspended until further notice. Concealed carry permit renewals will continue to be processed to ensure that they do not expire.

All in-person visiting and volunteer services at the Lassen County Jail are suspended until further notice. All staff and new jail bookings are being screened by medical staff in the sally port prior to entering the facility. Jail staff is implementing protocols to ensure precautions recommended by the CDC are being followed among the jail population to ensure their safety.

Anyone with concerns or questions about COVID-19 including where they can be screened should call the local Public Health Hotline (530) 251-8100.

“We would like to thank our citizens for the care and concern they have demonstrated for one another in the past few weeks and for their support for our first responders and their commitment to keep our communities safe.”
