Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Weekly Update

Sunday, November 18th, 2018

Patti Hagata, Executive Director

The Chamber will be ordering 2019 Labor Law posters which feature the required federal and state notices on one poster. They will be available to Chamber members for $30.00 or/ non-member for $40.00 per poster. California businesses are required to post updated employment posters at each place of business. Contact the Chamber office at 257-4323 if you would like to have a poster ordered for your business.

The chamber board of directors is accepting applications to fill two board vacancies; one is an unexpired term that runs thru December 2020, vacant because of the recent passing of board member Vicki Lozano, and the second, is to begin a new three year term that will be created after Phil Fetterman’s term expires.  If you are a chamber member and are interested in applying to fill one of the board vacancies, stop by the Chamber office, located at 1516 Main Street, to pick up an application.

The Magical Country Christmas Committee will be held Saturday, December 1st, from 5-7 pm, in Historic Uptown Susanville. The celebration includes musical entertainment, Christmas Parade, Toys for Tots drive, and fireworks to ring in the Christmas season. Main Street will be closed to thru traffic during the celebration. This is a fun filled event for the whole family. If you are interested in participating in the parade or being a vendor, log on to the chamber website to download an application at www.lassencountychamber.org .

In rural Northern California there is a critical need for dependable broadband to serve business, telehealth, distance education, economic/workforce development and emergency services communication.  Geographical Information Center at CSU, Chico is doing a Business Broadband Survey and CalSPEED Internet Usage Study. In conjunction with the California Public Utilities Commission, the Geographical Information Center at CSU, Chico is collecting important data from our region to prove the case that improved service is desperately needed, and to show that in some areas, businesses are not receiving the speeds that their carriers are advertising.

By completing the Business Broadband Survey at https://www.necalbroadband.org  you will be confirming or refuting carrier supplied information and helping provide a more accurate description of coverage in California.   To check your internet speeds download the CalSPEED usage study at (https://www.necalbroadband.org/#calspeed).

The chamber board and staff wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Every single dollar our readers contribute goes towards making SusanvilleStuff a stronger voice in the community with better, more comprehensive content. We increasingly need the help of our readers to support us with either a voluntary subscription or a one-time contribution.
