Lake Almanor Water Level Forces Postponement of July 4th Fireworks Display

Because of rising lake levels at Lake Almanor, the Lake Almanor Area Chamber will be postponing the fireworks display that had been scheduled for July 4th.

On Monday, according to the Almanor Chamber, fireworks committee leader Jay Sableman received phone calls from both Peninsula Fire Chief Gary Pini and the contracted pyrotechnical company with bad news for the event – the peninsula launch site has been determined to be unsafe with the lake at its current level of 4,494 feet.

The chamber looked into alternative locations but none proved feasible.

“The event would cause significant forest fire risks to the community, the fire department personnel on site and the pyrotechnicians that facilitate the event,” explained a Chamber spokesperson.

“There is simply not enough space to do the show on the tip of the peninsula, or anywhere along the shore of Lake Almanor.”

The Almanor chamber has obtained approval from Peninsula Fire and Lake Almanor Country Club to postpone the Fireworks Spectacular to Labor Day Weekend, August 31st.

“We invite everyone to join us to celebrate this holiday and take advantage of all the amazing events in the area throughout the weekend of the 4th. Come together with the mountains and light up the area at 9:00p.m. July 4th with us by adding some festive lights to your boats.”

Please contact the Chamber with any questions at [email protected] or 530-258-2426.
