Joyce Whitcome 1932 – 2019

Joyce Whitcome passed away June 13, 2019 in Susanville, CA.

She was born July 2, 1932 in Cedarville, California to Annie and Clarence Doss and was the youngest of three siblings, William Doss, Audrey Kennedy, and Maxine Kennedy who preceded her in death.

Joyce was married to Loren Whitcome for 45 years, who passed away in 1998.

She worked many years for the California Employment Development Department and then for the California State Board of Equalization in Susanville before retiring in 1993. Joyce was also active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Monticola Club.

Joyce enjoyed working in her yard, reading, traveling, camping, and spending time outdoors.  She was an excellent cook, loved collecting dishes, and always set a beautiful table. But most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren.  She enjoyed spending time with them and was a big part of their lives. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Paul and Bill Whitcome of Susanville, and Dan Whitcome of Yreka, California.  She is also survived by five grandchildren, Ryan Whitcome of Portland Oregon, Kyle Whitcome of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jordon Whitcome of Susanville, California, Amanda Whitcome of Central Point, Oregon, and Emily Whitcome of Modesto, California.  She has six great-grandchildren, Declan, Lexi, Corbin, Scarlett, Valerie, and Jett.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 21 at 11:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 120 N. Union in Susanville, with interment and reception to follow.

Why Pre-plan?

Thinking about your own funeral leaves most people feeling a little uneasy, but more adults are finding that pre-planning a funeral offers great emotional and even financial security for them and their families. With pre-planning, families find comfort in knowing that the funeral reflects what their loved one wanted. It also gives them peace of mind to not have to make important decisions at a stressful time. Click here to visit Walton’s Funeral Home
