GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Medical Assistant performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments and maintaining medical records for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.

This position works with and around our children and youth and is therefore subject to P.L. 101-630.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Record patients’ medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
Assists Providers and/or Registered Nurse with patients, by performing duties within certification limits.
Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens collected by provider, and prepare them for pick up by lab transport.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians’ instructions to patients.
Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses as ordered by the physician.
Enter and update all Immunization records in HER and CAIR upon completion of administration per provider’s orders.
Knowledge of CAIR and how to obtain records for patients.
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and supplies.
Abides by universal precautions, as related to staff, patients and clinic.
Scrub ahead of time and periodically throughout the current ay, for review of provider’s schedule to include requesting patient data from outside facilities.
Assists with inventories and orders in-house medication and supplies when directed by Clinic Outreach Manager.
Assist Clinic Outreach Manager with diabetic grand and GPRA reports as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited high school.
2. AA Degree or Certificate of Completion from an Accredited Trade School.
3. One to three years of similar or related experience.
4. Must have a valid California driver’s license or license from current residence state.
5. Must pass P.L. 101-630 background check.
6. Must pass pre-employment drug test.
7. Must have a valid CPR card or be able to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire date.
8. Must be proficient in blood draws, administering vaccinations and oral medications and collect specimens for lab tests.
9. Must be proficient in obtaining records and faxing prescriptions and other medical records to outside providers.
10. Must have knowledge in proper dressing changes.
11. Must be proficient in processing in-office lab tests, and specialized testing such as EKG, vision screening and hearing tests.
12. Must be able to multi-task and stock exam rooms.
13. Must be able to remove staples and stitches.
14. Must have knowledge of how to use the autoclave.
15. Must have knowledge of documentation in Electronic Health Records.
16. Must be proficient in obtaining medical and surgical history on patients and documenting appropriately.
17. Measure vital signs to include pulse, blood pressure, respirations, temperature and SPO2 and height and weight.
18. Provide patient education as directed by the provider.
19. Must be a team player and help where help is needed.
20. Must be willing to travel for training.

WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT:
1. PHYSICAL SAFETY: The work requires minor physical exertion, such as short periods of standing, walking over rough uneven surfaces, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping,
stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Job may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities. Job requires minimal
agility and dexterity.
2. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as weather, body fluids, toxic laboratory and industrial chemicals, or confined, dirty and noisy
locations. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
