City of Susanville – Youth Services Officer

The City of Susanville has an exciting employment opportunity available for a Youth Services Officer (YSO) with the Susanville Police Department. Under general supervision of the Police Captain or designee, the YSO provides assistance to the department by performing a variety of youth crime prevention and education activities in a multi-agency, collaborative team environment. Working with the Youth Services Officer from Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, the Youth Services Officer’s duties include planning, organizing, promoting, monitoring and coordinating youth prevention and intervention programs. Additionally, the YSO maintains effective collaborative relationships and serves as the liaison to program personnel in schools, school districts, county law enforcement agencies, county offices of education, and other local and state agencies and
groups. Frequent public contact will require the exercise of tact, diplomacy, good judgment, and negotiation skills. This position could utilize a nontraditional work schedule, which may include evening and/or weekend work.

Job duties include providing direct prevention education, intervention services, or case management to youth. The successful candidate will plan, organize, and coordinate prevention activities and presentations, including trainings, workshops, conferences, luncheons, assemblies, and fundraising events. Responsibilities include preparing a variety of correspondence, reports, and other materials requiring independent judgment
as to content, accuracy and completeness. Engage and provide technical assistance and training to school personnel, parents, and community members in youth crime prevention programs. Assist students in accessing community services such as counseling, tutoring, mentoring, vocational training, and other services that may be to their benefit. In addition, job duties include gathering information and analyzing data for the purpose of evaluating and adjusting programs when necessary in accordance with funding program requirements.

Applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of employment, and possess a High School diploma or equivalent, and be able to read and write the English language. In addition, applicants must be able to obtain CLETS clearance, and have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s license. The current annual salary range for the position of Youth Services Officer starts at $37,852.88, plus an excellent benefits package including paid medical, dental and vision benefits.
