What are the minimum requirements?

The minimum requirements for peace officer are:

  • U.S. Citizen or applied for citizenship
  • 21 years of age (20 at the time of application)
  • U. S. high school diploma/GED
  • No felony convictions

Are there incentives for working at High Desert State Prison (HDSP) and the California Correctional Center (CCC)?

Recruitment and retention salary incentives will be paid to persons accepting positions at the institutions listed above.  Detailed salary information can be obtained at http://www.cdcr.ca.gov.

Is there priority processing for HDSP and CCC candidates?

If you are willing to work at HDSP or CCC, you will receive priority processing.  Although processing times will vary for each candidate, priority processing may reduce processing time by three to six months from Physical Fitness Test completion to institution assignment.

Is this an all-day event?

Yes. Attendees will hear an informational presentation on peace officer careers, the hiring process, and have an opportunity to speak with recruiters and correctional professionals and apply in the morning. Accepted applicants will return that afternoon to take the written exam.

Do I have to attend both days?

No, you will only attend a single day session.  Please select the day that will best suit your schedule.

Is parking available?

Parking is available onsite and is free of charge.

What should I bring?

A valid state driver’s license or identification card, passport, civil service ID, or military identification card will be accepted.

Cellphones will be permitted for the presentation and application only.

How can I prepare for the written exam?

You can download a sample of the written exam here.

All testing materials will be provided for you. Please do not bring cellphones, calculators, or other electronic items with you to the afternoon portion of the event.
