As they have every year for the last 36 years, the Lassen County Office of Education will hold a Sober Graduation event for every graduating senior in Lassen County, giving the class of 2021 a fun, safe year-end party following graduation ceremonies at the high school. With less than a week left to go the LCOE is still welcoming contributions to the Sober Grad event.
“This year’s event will be slightly different in light of the COVID-19 restrictions; however, our goal remains the same, to provide a fun, safe event to cap off the end of their senior year and provide a gift for every graduating senior!” explains Superintendent of Schools Patricia Gunderson.
The in-person event will take place this Friday, from 9:30p.m. until 1 :30a.m., at the high school, with dancing, games, food, activities, photo booths and the Gift Give-a-way.
“With so many small businesses forced to close their doors, we hope to receive either monetary donations or items that can be added to a ‘gift bag’ that each senior will receive,” said Gunderson.
The bags will include the Sober Graduation t-shirt with this year’s logo, typically given out at the actual event, along with other items that the students can use or enjoy.
“We are looking for items to include in the gift bags and monetary donations that can be given as cash prizes to our graduates. Our small Lassen County businesses have been the backbone of this event with their donations, and this year may be a struggle for many of them.”
