Holiday Season Begins This Week With Lots Planned in Lassen County

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Susanville and the next month is packed with event after event to help celebrate the season. Craft fairs, fireworks, parades, live performances and the festival of lights are just a few of the fun things on the calendar. 

Susanville Choral Society
Susanville Choral Society. Enjoy an evening of Choral Music featuring pieces from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Edvard Grieg to Richard Carpenter and Matt Mullin. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated. Friday, November 22nd, Susanville United Methodist Church 7:00 – 10:00p.m

The Nutcracker
Susanville Best of Broadway and the Lassen County Arts Council Present: The Nutcracker at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall on Thursday, November 21st and Friday, November 22 at 7:00p.m., and Saturday, November 23rd at 2:00 and 7:00p.m. Tickets are available at Lassen County Chamber and Margie’s Book Nook.

Monticola Club Christmas Boutique and Country Store
The 15th Annual Monticola Club Christmas Boutique and Country Store will be on Saturday, November 23rd from 10:00 – 5:00p.m., at the Monticola Club House, 140 S. Lassen St. Unique handmade gifts, vendors and their craft, raffles and food. The Monticola Club is a community service organization dedicated to improving our community.

Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot
Start working off Thanksgiving dinner a little early and help out a great local organization as the Bizz Running Company hosts the 7th Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot on November 28th.

Families and children are encouraged to participate in this fun 3.1 mile race which will begin promptly at 8:30a.m. at Lassen Superior Courthouse, 2610 Riverside Drive in Susanville. There is no cost to enter, however, participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or donation for Lassen Senior Services.

Festival of Lights
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning December 1st the Lassen County Fair is hosting its ‘Holiday Festival of Lights’ exhibition at the fairgrounds.

The displays are built by different local groups, organizations and individuals for the public to drive through and ‘oooooh and ahhhhhhh’ at during the season. The massive display of holiday cheer is also a stop on the annual Senior Light Tour.

Friday and Saturday gates are open 5:00 – 9:00p.m. On Sunday, gates are open 5:00 – 8:00p.m. with three extra days Monday, December 23rd from 5:00 – 9:00 and Tuesday, December 24th from 5:00 – 10:00p.m. and Wednesday, December 25th from 5:00 – 9:00p.m. Please note, Friday, December 13th no cars, walk through only. Drive thru the fairway and see holiday light displays. Donations are accepted.

Christmas in the Mountains
Westwood celebrates the holidays Friday night, December 6th, with Christmas in the Mountains. Come rain, shine or snow, everyone is invited to the community center at 5:00p.m. Santa will arrive on the Fire Truck in the Light Parade. Children can sit on Santa’s lap so bring your cameras for a photo opportunity.

Complimentary hot chocolate and cookies from the Westwood Chamber of Commerce. Westwood Family Resource Center will be giving away books. Free crafts for kids and vendors outside. Fun for everyone.

Susanville Assembly of God Church Christmas Bazaar
On Friday, December 6 from 4:00 until 8:00p.m. and on Saturday, December 7th from 9:00 to 3:00p.m., at 473-465 Richmond Road.

Banner Lassen Medical Center Photos with Santa
On Friday, December 6 from 3:00 – 6:00p.m, have your photo taken with Santa with the donation of a coat or canned food items. Photos will be taken at Banner Lassen Pioneer Room.

Blue Star Moms Old Fashion Country Christmas Crafts Faire
On Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th the Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms Holiday Craft Fair will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 1205 Main St., from 4:00 – 8:00p.m. on Friday and on Saturday 9:00 – 3:00p.m. The funds from the booth spaces will go to the Blue Star Moms to assist them with their activities on behalf of our military. There will be ornaments, wood, glass, ceramics, needlepoint, jewelry and a host of other unique gifts to buy.

Doyle Holiday Craft Faire
Holiday Craft Faire December 7th from 9:00 – 4:00p.m., at the Doyle Community Building, 434-685 Doyle Loop. Unique gifts for everyone on your lists. Crochet hats and blankets, candles, soaps, succulents, crafts, toys, books, sewing, quilting, art ornaments, jewelry and more. Indian Taco lunch starts at 11:00a.m.

Magical Country Christmas
The Magical Country Christmas in Uptown Susanville. The biggest holiday celebration in Lassen County will be held Saturday, December 7th from 5:00 – 7:00p.m., in Historic Uptown Susanville. Come and enjoy a parade, live entertainment, food and beverages. Santa will make his grand entrance and fireworks will be set off as the big tree at the top of Main Street is lit.

McKinley School PTA Presents Breakfast with Santa
McKinley School PTA Presents Breakfast with Santa, Saturday, December 7th from 8:00 to 11:00a.m. Breakfast and photos with Santa will be in the McKinley School Multi-Purpose Room. The cost is $5.00 per person or $20 per family, breakfast, photo with Santa, Christmas activities and crafts included. Craft and vendor fair is from 8:00 until 12:00p.m., the Book Fair will be on December 9th from 8:00 – 11:00a.m. and December 10th through the 13th from 8:30 – 4:00p.m., in the McKinley School Library.

Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce Holiday Bazaar
Westwood Area Chamber’s Annual Holiday Bazaar will be held on Sunday, December 8th at the Westwood Community Center at 3rd and Birch Streets from 11:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. You’ll find local vendors selling crafts, jewelry, Scentsy, collectibles, essential oils, food and so much more.

Winter Wonderland Zumbathon and Christmas Crafts Fair
Spirit Elite Eagles and New Image Racquetball Club will be holding a craft fair on Saturday, December 14th from 9:00 – 5:00p.m. inside New Image Racquetball Club, 1717 Main Street.

Fairgrounds Craft Fair
The Lassen County Fair’s annual Holiday Craft Fair is a huge two-day event featuring everything from hand-crafted wooden toys to homemade maple syrup and steam punk jewelry. It is the perfect place to shop for that hard-to-buy-for person on your Christmas shopping list. Crafters fill up several buildings on the fairgrounds with great gift ideas.

The show opens on Friday, December 13th from 4:00 to 8:00p.m. and on Saturday, December 14th doors will be open from 10:00 to 3:00p.m.

Victims of Crime Hobby Craft Fair
Also at the fairgrounds is the 30th annual Lassen Family Services and the California Correctional Center Victims of Crime Hobby Craft Fair.

You can find something for everyone while helping out a good cause; clocks, toys, belt buckles, redwood jewelry boxes, benches, picnic tables and a wooden locomotive playhouse are just some of the handmade items.

Camp inmates donated their own time and supplies to produce craft items.

All of the donated hobby crafts will be on sale at the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday as part of the Lassen County Fair’s holiday craft fair; on Friday, December 13th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 14th from 10:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Susanville City Kickettes Christmas Extraordinaire
On December 14th at 6:00p.m. and December 15th at 4:00p.m. in the Veteran’s Memorial Hall. Featuring the J and J Dancers. For more information visit www.jandjperformingarts.com. Tickets available at J and J Performing Arts, Margie’s Book Nook and Zaengles Carpet One.

The Susanville Symphony Presents: A Susanville Christmas.
After several years of a more pop like holiday show, this year we bring you back to the classics featuring music from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky and more. Audience sing-a-longs, special soloists and more bring you closer to your family and to the holiday spirit that encapsulates this beautiful area we live in. December 20th and December 21st, Assembly of God Church 7:00p.m., both nights.
