Gold Fire Burns 4,600 Acres, 5% Contained : Tuesday A.M. Update

The 4,600 acre Gold Fire, burning near County Road A2 and Highway 139 in northern Lassen County is currently 5% contained according to the Tuesday morning update released by Cal-Fire’s Lassen Modoc Unit.

The fire started yesterday afternoon and quickly threatened structures in the area.

According to CalFire the fire started as two separate fires that have now burned together.

Residents of the Butte Creek area have been evacuated.

Firefighters are working aggressively to build containment lines around the fire.

Highway 139 is currently open with traffic controls but officials are asking everyone to avoid the fire area if possible.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
