Get Your Christmas Tree Cutting Permit

Tis the season as families get ready for their annual trip to the woods to find that absolutely perfect Christmas tree, and tree cutting permits are on sale through the U.S. Forest Service.

Each permit allows for the cutting of one tree on National Forest land. Permits sell for $10.00 a piece and the maximum allowed per household is two permits.

Along with the Christmas tree permit tag you will also get a map showing cutting areas, requirements and helpful tips.

Permits may also be purchased through the mail. Mailed requests for permits must be received by December 9th, and should be directed to your nearest Forest Service office.

To expedite your request the Forest Service asks that you write “Christmas Tree Permit” on the outside of the envelope.

When purchasing by mail, please include the following: printed name and address to which the permits are to be mailed; your daytime telephone number; and a check or money order for $10.00 per tree, made out to: “USDA Forest Service”.

Also please provide the name of the person who will be signing the permit and cutting the tree. Be sure your driver’s license number is on the check. Please allow at least one week for processing of your request.
