Load up your four-legged furry friends and bring them out to play at the brand-new Susanville Bark Park.

Located at 925 Sierra Road, people will find ample space for their dogs to exercise and play off-leash in a fenced area with two separate areas for big dogs and smaller dogs. The park is open from dawn to dusk every day.

The Susanville Bark Park fulfills a need in the community and was largely championed by Mimi Rena and her husband John Dozier who volunteered considerable effort in moving the project forward.

According to Rena, it is a very nice park and provides a place for not only dogs, but people to come and socialize. She added that the Susanville Bark Park will also benefit the area as it will draw travelers to the community. When people travel with their pets, they look ahead to see what towns are dog friendly and the park will offer them a place to stop and have lunch.

Other agencies and businesses also contributed to the park’s creation. Susanville Public Works’ Natural Gas, Streets and Water divisions spent considerable time developing the park; Public Works Director Dan Newton and City Engineer Dan Gibbs were instrumental in pushing the project to completion; City staff Erik Edholm and Billy Hoffman provided numerous hours of project management and pursuing donors who generously provided materials. Donors are: Impact Construction (Ryan Potter) – grading, concrete forming; Crazy J Concrete – placing of concrete; TnS Materials – donation of concrete material; Kirack Construction – spreading of asphalt grindings; Pee Wee Construction (Norm & Phil Shepherd) – donation of decomposed granite material; Mike Engman – spreading and grading of decomposed granite; and Rental Guys (Cecil) – equipment, Milwood Florist (Sam Glass) – donation and planting of three trees and installing drip irrigation to water them; Zamora’s Tree Service – donation of wood chips.

City of Susanville Mayor Mendy Schuster said, “I would like to thank the many members of the community who dedicated time, materials, and equipment to the construction of the new dog park. It would not have been possible without their support.”
