Forest Service Limited Motor Traffic on Almanor Recreation Trail

Lassen National Forest has implemented a Forest Order limiting the use of motor vehicles on the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail.

The trail is small and designed for hiking, jogging and bike use, seeing significant foot and bike traffic each year. The purpose of this new Forest Order is to provide for public safety by prohibiting motorized vehicles on trail, as shown on the map below. The Order is effective from May 21st, 2020 through May 20th, 2021.

ā€œIf motor vehicle traffic were to be allowed on this small trail a public safety issue would be created,ā€ said LNF Forest Supervisor Deb Bumpus.

ā€œThe mixture of motor vehicle and pedestrian use on the trail significantly increases the likelihood of creating vehicle and pedestrian accidents.ā€

The Lassen National Forest has sought input both internally and externally on this matter, including subject matter experts and local county officials. It is the consensus of this group that this closure be instituted.

For additional information, please call the Almanor Ranger District, (530) 258-2141, during the hours of 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
