The Eagle Lake Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest is initiating the public scoping comment period for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Road Easement Project. The purpose of this proposed action is to issue BNSF Railway Company a road easement that will provide access to their existing railroad right-of-way located in the Lassen National Forest.
This new easement located about 5 miles north of Westwood, off County Road A21, would provide legal access to facilitate the future construction and maintenance of a new siding track (extra track), which would allow trains to pass each other within the current BNSF right-of-way. The requested road easement would include an approximate 742-foot segment of road with a roadbed width of 40 feet wide (20 feet each side of centerline).
The public is encouraged to submit input as it relates to the proposed action and identify any issues about the anticipated effects from this proposed action. Please provide written comments to us before September 17, 2018 so your comments may be considered as we move through the NEPA process with this project. A decision regarding the proposal is expected in September 2018.
