Firefighters Make Quick Work of Pine Street Structure Fire

Quick work by firefighters from the Susanville Fire Department, along with help from agencies throughout the valley, helped contain a fire that started in the back bedroom of an unoccupied residence on North Pine Street Saturday morning.

The Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire located at 140 N Pine Street shortly before 8:00a.m., arriving to find moderate smoke coming from the first-floor front windows of the structure. Quick and aggressive firefighting efforts were performed and the fire was extinguished in the rear bedroom of the house.

“There were no occupants in the home at the time, but there were 4 dogs inside, all animals were rescued without any harm,” said Fire Captain Robert Brown.

According to Captain Brown fire damage was contained to the bedroom with only smoke damage throughout the house.

“Upon investigation,” explained Brown, “the cause of the fire was determined to be combustible materials too close to a heating unit.”

The Susanville Fire Department was assisted by the Susanville Police Department, CalFire, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Janesville Fire Protection District, Susan River Fire District and Lassen Municipal Utility District.

Total equipment and 22 personnel committed to the incident included one Chief, six engines, one truck and two police units.
