A vacant home on Orange Street suffered heavy smoke and fire damage early Friday morning according to details released by the Susanville Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived on-scene, shortly after 2:30a.m., the Engine Company reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the street-side window in front of the house.

“Rapid and aggressive firefighting efforts were performed, the fire was contained and extinguished within the structure with no extension or damage to adjacent structures,” explains SFD Fire Captain Robert H Brown Jr.

There were no occupants in the structure, and it was being remodeled at the time of the fire.

According to Brown the structure suffered heavy smoke and fire damage to the living room, kitchen and attic area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
