Dr. Bateson’s Weather Corner: April Numbers Fall Short of Average

Monday, May 5th, 2014

The precipitation numbers are in for the month of April and Dr. Owen Bateson, Susanville’s meteorological expert says it could be worse – but it could be a lot better.

According to Bateson’s measurements we received .47 inches during April, but we should have had 1.16 inches based on historical averages. Instead April only finished at 40% of average.

“That brings the yearly total to 13.45 inches and 69% of average for this date,” explains Bateson. “It’s interesting that having only 40% of average for the month only dropped our yearly percentage from 70% at the end of March to 69% at the end of April.
