Doing a Good Turn: Scouting for Food

Front porches all over town will be filled with food for the needy this weekend as local Boy Scouts collect groceries in their annual ‘Scouting for Food’ campaign.

Would you like to help? Local residents are being asked to donate canned and nonperishable food that will be passed along by the Scouts to the Salvation Army, Crossroads Ministries and the Herlong Family Resource Center.

The Scouting for Food drive is a coordinated effort with Scouts collecting food in Susanville, Johnstonville, Leavitt Lake, Litchfield, Standish, Janesville, Milford and Doyle.

Nationally, the ‘Scouting for Food’ campaign evolved in 1988 as an effort to combat hunger and malnutrition across the United States. With this project the Boy Scouts of America directly help to meet the needs of the less fortunate, while exposing its members to the highest ideals of the Scouting movement through practical experiences in the principle of the daily ‘Good Turn’.

To contribute to the food drive simply place all donated food into a plastic or paper bag outside your door for pickup by the Scouts this Saturday, November 12th. Make sure you have the bags outside by 9:00 Saturday morning. Boy Scouts will collect all of the bags between 9:00a.m. and 12:00 noon.

If scouts miss your donation they can be dropped off at several locations including; Susanville’s Fire Hall, the Janesville Fire Hall, Richmond School or the LDS Church in Standish.

The local “Scouting for Food” program is sponsored by the nice folks at Susanville’s Eagle Home Mortgage.
