City’s Planned Training Burn Hampered by Wintery Weather

Fire Chief James Moore said on Monday that despite unexpected winter weather the City of Susanville’s planned training burn along the Susan River last Saturday was somewhat successful, with firefighters from throughout the county getting some live-fire training.

The city, along with Cal-Fire, used the training to mitigate wildfire hazards along the River Walk trail.

“Unfortunately,” explains Chief Moore, “the burn plan and logistical commitments were hindered by Mother Nature’s timing and the burn was considered moderately successful to meet the desired objectives.”

“However, beneficial live-fire training was still delivered to numerous county and city firefighters.”

The Susanville Fire Department thanked event participants including: Cal-Fire LMU, Susan River FPD, Janesville FPD, Milford FPD, Susanville Police Department, Susanville VFD.

Moore also thanked Rebecca Sanchez and all of the folks at AXIA home loans for feeding the crews at the conclusion of the event.
