An Alturas woman and her 2-year old passenger escaped injury Friday after their 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran off Center Road and down an embankment before striking a large rock and driving through a barbed wire fence near Cramer Road.
According to the report filed by the Susanville Office of the California Highway Patrol, a woman identified as 33-year old Courtney Moltzen was driving the Jeep eastbound on Center Road at around 1:30p.m.. doing approximately 50 miles per hour.
“Moltzen was driving while under the influence of alcohol with her 2-year old son in the vehicle as a passenger,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Kristin Wilburn.
“Due to Moltzen’s unsafe turning movement, coupled with her level of impairment, Moltzen subsequently lost control of the Jeep and left the roadway on the south side of Center Road.”
Moltzen drove down the short downhill embankment, impacted a large rock, then drove through a barbed wire fence before coming to a stop.
The driver was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence and child endangerment.
