CHP Incident: Vallejo Man Arrested After High-Speed 395 Pursuit

A Vallejo man was arrested July 25th after leading CHP officers on a pursuit that reached speeds of 130mph on Highway 395 near Honey Lake.

According to details released in the CHP’s incident report, an officer with the Susanville Area CHP office observed a gray Nissan 350Z traveling northbound on US-395 near the Honey Lake Motorcross park at over 100mph.

The officer performed a U-turn, accelerating in an attempt to overtake the Nissan and the driver fled, increasing his speed to approximately 130mph, passing vehicles over double-yellow lines.

At this point the officer lost sight of the Nissan and discontinued his attempt to overtake the vehicle, at the same time providing CHP dispatch with a description of the vehicle and its reckless driving.

A short time later, CHP dispatch began receiving calls from witnesses describing the same vehicle traveling at 100mph, making bad passes and forcing vehicles off the road.

A second CHP officer located the Nissan near US-395 at Main Street, in Janesville, and subsequently made a traffic stop.

The driver of the vehicle, identified by the CHP as 23-year old Jonathan Iver Castro, was arrested for reckless driving.

While conducting an inventory of the Nissan prior to its impound by Susanville Tow, a loaded pistol with a round in the chamber was located under the driver seat, a switch blade knife was located near the driver seat and a controlled substance was also located in he vehicle.

As a result the suspect was also charged with carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, possession of a switchblade knife and possession of a controlled substance.

No officers or suspects were injured as a result of this incident.
