CHP Incident: Two Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit and Crash Near Milford

Two men were arrested early Thursday morning after leading law enforcement on a chase that at times reached 120mph and ended near Milford when the suspects crashed their car and abandoned the vehicle, only to be taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers a short time later.

Shortly before 1:00a.m., according to the CHP report, a graveyard patrol unit was southbound on Highway 395, north of Laver Crossing, when they observed a northbound Nissan sedan traveling at a speed greater than 95-miles per hour.

The CHP unit activated their forward red rights to conduct an enforcement stop, and attempted to overtake the Nissan.

The driver of the car accelerated to a speed of 121 miles per hour and the pursuit continued northbound on Highway 395, sustaining speeds of 115 to 120 miles per hour.

The driver of the Nissan would turn off the headlights and tail-lights intermittently in an attempt to evade the CHP patrol unit and the pursuit continued onto Milford Grade where visual contact was lost.

At approximately 1:15a.m., the Nissan was located on old highway 395, where it had lost control, traveled through a barbed-wire fence, down a ravine, colliding with a large rock.

When officers found the car it was unoccupied and the CHP, along with allied agencies, searched the area, later locating the suspects in the vicinity of US395 and A-25.

Two men, identified by the CHP as 26-year old Saint Louis, Missouri, resident Jermaine Alexander Benjamin and 25-year old Palm Bay, Florida, resident Marshawn Anthony Gordon, were placed under arrest without further incident.
