CHP Incident: Susanville Man Suspect in Reno Homicide Investigation

A Susanville man has been arrested and charged with the killing of an unidentified woman in Reno on August 12th, and investigators are looking for the public’s help in gathering information regarding the incident.

According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, a CHP officer stopped a vehicle for traffic violations in the area of US 395 South and Hall Road at about 8:30p.m., Wednesday. Officers immediately recognized that the driver, later identified as Susanville resident Jesus Padilla, was acting suspiciously.

“During their investigation,” explains Reno Police Department Sergeant John Silver, “officers became concerned that Padilla may have been involved in a violent crime in the Reno area.”

CHP asked for the assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department and the Reno Police Department.

“Ultimately, RPD located a crime scene in the 3600 block of Grant Drive in Reno. Officers located a deceased female, who is believed to be an associate of Padilla.”

Detectives from the Reno Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Unit responded and began conducting an investigation.

“It is believed that Padilla killed the female a few hours prior to the traffic stop. Detectives do not believe anyone else was involved in the crime.”

Padilla was booked at the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department for Homicide and DUI. He is pending extradition to Reno. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call the Reno Police Department at (775) 334-2115, or Secret Witness at 322-4900, www.secretwitness.com, or text the tip to 847411 (TIP411) keyword – SW
