CHP Incident: Janesville Woman Arrested on DUI and Hit and Run Charges

A 53-year old Janesville woman was arrested for Driving Under the Influence by the California Highway Patrol Tuesday after she ran into several fences near the Janesville Dollar General store, then fled the scene.

Shortly after noon, according to the CHP report, the driver, identified as Cynthia Chaffee, drove onto a private dirt road in the vicinity of the Dollar General and due to her unsafe speed and alcohol impairment, she lost control and hit a barbed wire fence.

After hitting the fence, she made a U-turn and collided with another fence and then fled the scene.

The home owner witnessed the incident and gave chase, but was unable to keep up with the suspect who was traveling in excess of 100mph.

Approximately 20-minutes later a CHP officer observed a vehicle that had fresh damage to it and matched the description of the suspect vehicle.

The Officer conducted a DUI investigation and determined the suspect to be driving under the influence and the driver to be the hit and run suspect.

The suspect was booked into the Lassen County Jail for Hit and Run, DUI and driving on a suspended license.
