CHP Incident: Big Rig Driver Arrested for DUI After Highway 36 Collision

A Dinuba, California man, identified by the California Highway Patrol as 29-year old Humberto Zaragoza, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after the 2012 Freightliner big-rig he was driving overturned on Highway 36 early Saturday morning.

According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, Zaragoza was driving a 2012 Freightliner, pulling a 53′ trailer, eastbound on SR-36, west of SR-44 at an approximate speed of 55 miles per hour.

“Zaragoza was driving while under the influence of alcohol,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Kristin Wilburn. “Due to Zaragoza’s unsafe turning movement, coupled with his level of impairment, he subsequently lost control of the Freightliner and left the roadway along the south shoulder of SR-36.”

The tractor-trailer subsequently overturned and impacted the embankment located along the south shoulder of the highway.

“Upon CHP arrival, Zaragoza admitted to driving and displayed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication.”

He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
