CHP Incident: 12-Year Old Suffers Major Injury in UTV Accident

A 12-year old Chester boy was injured Friday after his leg was trapped between the tensioner and the track of a UTV being driven by his father on Forest Service property near Chester.

According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, 31-year old William Bailey Ng of Chester was operating a 2018 Polaris 900 UTV outfitted with snow tracks and had stopped so that his son could load into the passenger seat of the UTV from outside the vehicle.

The boy stepped onto the right front track of the Polaris with his right foot and started to get into the vehicle when William Ng’s foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas.

The UTV started moving forward, breaking the juvenile’s leg. Two other children in the vehicle were uninjured.
