A Roseville man walked away with minor injuries Sunday after he lost control of his 2001 Chevrolet Cruze on Highway 36 near the Roxie Peconum Campground road, jumped over a Forest Service road and came to rest with the vehicle on its roof.

At around 9:35a.m., according to details from the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, 19-year old Caden Ray was driving his Chevy eastbound on the highway approaching Forest Road 38N02 at an unknown speed.

“Mr. Ray diverted his attention from the roadway to his phone,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Bruce Thuelchassaigne.

Ray allowed the Chevy to drift to the right, allowing the right-side tires to leave the pavement. He then turned back to the left to return to the roadway, however, he over-corrected. He turned back to the right, again over-correcting, and lost control of the vehicle.

He exited the roadway south of SR-36, traveling slightly down the dirt embankment before colliding with a reflector post on the west edge of the Forest Service road.

The  sedan then crossed over, it appears without touching, Forest Road 38N02 and impacted the descending dirt embankment on the southeast side of the dirt road, where it rolled over onto its roof. Ray suffered apparent minor injuries as a result of the collision.

“The Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone to pay attention to the road while they are driving. Even a moment of inattention can result in tragedy. Mr. Ray was fortunate enough to walk away from this collision, with apparently only minor injuries, due in part to properly wearing his seatbelt.”
