Chamber of Commerce Update for January 24th, 2012

Patti Hagata, Executive Director

The Lassen Co. Chamber of Commerce Annual Chamber Membership Awards Dinner will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Eagle Lake Village, beginning at 6:30pm.

Keynote speaker will be City of Susanville Senior Planner, Jared Hancock.

The Chamber will honor the Lassen County Times as the “Chamber Member of the Year”, The Pardner Western Store as the “Chamber Business of the Year”, and Patricia Sharp as the “Volunteer of the Year” during this event.

We encourage everyone to attend and help us honor these award recipients.

Chamber members should be sure that the Chamber’s visitor lobby has an adequate supply of your business cards and brochures on hand to promote your business throughout the year. This is a free marketing service that is available to all Chamber members.

Many brochures and business cards have been depleted and are in need of restocking.

The popular ranger-led snowshoe walks are again be offered at Lassen Volcanic National Park from the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center, near the park’s southwest entrance, on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30 p.m., through April.

Programs are 1½ to 2 hours long and open to individuals and families with children ages 8 and older. Rangers provide participants with proper snowshoeing techniques, outdoor survival tips, and winter mountain travel safety information.

Walks vary in route and distance depending on the group, weather, and snow conditions. The National Park Service provides snowshoes for the walks.

The park is open throughout the winter. Other activities that can be enjoyed while at the park include cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snow play, sledding, snow camping, and relaxing by the fireplace in the visitor center with a cup of hot chocolate after viewing the park film.

The road is plowed to the Manzanita Lake area on the north side and to the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center on the south side. The visitor center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For information about ranger-led programs, backcountry permits, and weather and road conditions, visit the park website at www.nps.gov/lavo or call the visitor center at (530) 595-4480.
