Carmela Glory Foulk AKA; Grandma
Carmela Gloria Foulk went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 22, 2021.
Carmela Gloria Foulk (Battiglia) was born August 21, 1929, in Hoboken New Jersey. Carmela’s parents, Frank Battaglia and Mary Rose Zerilli, were betrothed to one another in Calabria Italy, and immigrated to the United States in the early 1900’s. Carmela grew up in Hoboken and Trenton, New Jersey, and this is where she later met Frederic Winfield Foulk. Carmela and Frederic became engaged and were married on September 28, 1952. In February 1953, Frederic loaded up his new bride, his mom, all of his siblings and they made the long trek from Trenton, New Jersey to Rialto, California.
In March 1957, Carmela and Frederic purchased some land and had their first and only home built in Rialto, California. It is in this home, they raised their four (4) children: Carmela Gloria Foulk (Armendarez), Azarais Daniel Foulk, Tammy Foulk (Hernandez), and Frederic Franklin Foulk.
Carmela and Frederic raised their four (4) children and were able to enjoy their family begin to grow after their children were married and began to have families of their own. Over time this includes a total of eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Additionally, Carmela had such a great love for all the children she met through her own children, grandchildren, and these children gained a great love and respect for Carmela. With that said, she became known and loved to all as grandma/granny and was most often introduced as such.
In May 1997, Carmela’s husband of forty-five years passed away at their family home, and Carmela moved in with her youngest son, daughter in law and two (2) grandchildren. During this time Carmela continued to enjoy her growing family, through daily activities, birthday parties, holidays and special events which included weekly Sunday Family Dinners. Carmela also enjoyed gaining close and special friends within this new neighborhood and the church she attended (Calvary Chapel Rialto).
In August of 2006, when Carmela’s youngest son moved his family to Susanville, California, Carmela decided to move as well. Due to Carmela’s friendly and loving attitude, she continued to earn the respect and love of all through her continued AKA, “Grandma/Granny.”
As a young child growing up in the depression, Carmela and her siblings had to help earn money for the family before and after school. One of these jobs was shining shoes with her older brother Willie. She had the fondest memories of doing this with her brother Willie. Carmela also worked in the doll and clothing manufacturing industries up and through high school. Later, after her youngest son entered Junior High School, Carmela returned to this type of work in a uniform manufacturing company, which her oldest son was a partner in. In 1982, Carmela returned to the job she loved most, a wife and a mother.
Carmela’s hobbies were: sewing, baking, cooking, exercising and walking, crocheting, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, puzzles and just enjoying her family.
Carmela is preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Mary Rose Battaglia; stepfather Christopher Rich; brother, Anthony T. Battalia; sister, Josephine Battaglia (Parent); brother, William (Willie) Battaglia; sister, Rose Marie Battaglia, (Crosby and Jacklyn); husband, Frederic Winfield Foulk; son-in-law John Alexander Armendarez.
Carmela is survived by: her brother Joseph Battaglia; brother Frank Battaglia; daughter Carmela Gloria Foulk (Armendarez) with her son John Alexander Armendarez Jr; son Azarias Daniel Foulk; daughter-in-law April Foulk with their children and grandchildren; Jessica Marie Foulk (Miranda), her husband Michael Edward Miranda with their son, Remington Reese Miranda; Makayla Yvette Croteau (Carrasco), her husband Franklin Eduardo Carrasco with their children, Kaiden Jacob Carrasco and Elijah Angelo Carrasco; Jared Scott Croteau with his daughter, Delilah Rae Lozano; Azarias Daniel Foulk Jr, Timothy Michael Foulk, Brendan Jacob Croteau; daughter Tammy Foulk (Hernandez) with her children and grandchildren; Lorenzo Albert Hernandez, with his children Jacob Carter Gutierrez, Connor Micheal Gutierrez, Gloria June Hernandez, Angel Grace Hernandez; Sara Marie Hernandez with her children, Stella Lisha Rei Fields and Aria Moise Kafe Fields; son Frederic Franklin Foulk; daughter-in-law Joanna Lea Nickles (Foulk) with their children and grandchildren, Frederic Franklin Foulk Jr. with his wife Baylie Joann Sisson (Foulk) and their children, Evyn Parker Foulk and Quyn Olivia Foulk; Emily Ann Foulk (Brown) with her husband John Daniel Brown and their children, Dhanni Rose Brown and Malachi Carter Foulk.
Carmela is also survived by two (2) sister in-laws, one (1) brother in law and numerous nieces, and nephews.
2 Timothy 4:7-8, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteousness Judge, will award to me on that day – and not just me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
Memorial Service for Carmela Foulk will be at Walton’s Colonial Mortuary July 17th, 2021 at 10:00 am.
