Caltrans Project Update: Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk Focus of This Week’s Work

The California Department of Transportation continues with its Main Street renovation project this week, with work planned from 8:00p.m. Sunday, July 14th until 8:00 Friday morning.

According to this week’s update from Caltrans, crews have completed demolition of the various curb ramps; curb, gutter and sidewalk have been poured at various locations; paving of the first lift on HWY 36 from the Susan River Bridge to Lassen High School and paving the first lift on side streets. Crews also completed electrical work at various locations.

Between Sunday and Friday drivers on Susanville’s Main Street can expect single-lane traffic control with flaggers and up to 15 minute delays.

In the upcoming week crews will be continuing their curb, gutter and sidewalk work along with curb ramp work in the downtown area.

Caltrans officials say there has been some delay on completion because of redesign and regrading work.

Additional pavement grinding work may be required this week and no paving work is anticipated.

Additional grade adjustment is required to conform new asphalt to concrete curbs and the project will now require several weeks of installing traffic detection loops in first lift of paving before the final paving can begin.
