Emergency responders from agencies throughout the city responded to a reported structure fire at Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation at 2005 River Street shortly before 11:00a.m., today.
According to details provided by the Susanville Police Department, responding officers arrived to find LNR staff in a state of emergency addressing a fire that had ignited in the ceiling void.
“The Officers quickly organized the staff to begin evacuating the residents out of the facility,” explains SPD Public Information Officer Trisha Wood.
“Lassen County Sheriff’s deputies also arrived and began assisting the on-scene City Officers with evacuation efforts. Susanville Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and began fighting the fire.”
“Lassen Rural Bus responded promptly and began loading residents for relocation to Jensen Hall. Drivers from other elderly living facilities and related service organizations in the area also assisted in the transportation efforts.”
In total, 54 residents were evacuated from the facility, the majority of whom are dependent on wheel chairs. In addition, some members of the community arrived and assisted in transporting wheel chairs, oxygen bottles and other needed items.
The evacuation efforts were completed with all residents, support equipment and supplies en route to Jensen Hall shortly after noon.
Responding to this morning’s incident were the Susanville Police Department, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Lassen County Sheriff’s Dispatch, Lassen County Motor Pool, BLM, USDA Forest Service, Susanville Fire Department, Susan River Fire Department, CAL FIRE, SEMSA,SIFC Fire Dispatch, the Lassen Community College LVN Program , Lassen County Public Health, Lassen County Fairgrounds, Lassen Municipal Utilities District, Susanville Public Works, Lassen Rural Bus, Eagle Lake Village Assisted Living, Susanville Indian Rancheria, North Valley Services, Ardell Busby & other good Samaritan citizens who assisted.
