Susanville’s Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms gathered on October 23rd to honor Robert McElrath, Jr. and hang his military banner on Rob’s Way, above his father’s memorial bench.
“Robert McElrath, Sr. was a Marine veteran and now his only son is following in his footsteps,” explains Blue Star Mom Christy Rose. “Robbie recently enlisted in the Marines and is currently on active-duty.”
Joining the Blue Star Moms were McElrath’s family members: grandmother, Dorene Perez; grandparents Dennis and Elizabeth McElrath; aunts, Jennifer McElrath-Head and Ruth McElrath; uncles: Seanne McElrath, Alexander McElrath and Scott Head; his cousin, Greyson McElrath-Head. Don and June McCloud.
Blue Star Moms Christy Rose and JoAnne Darlington were in charge of the ceremony. Attendees included Susanville Police Officers Terra Avilla and Richard Warner, Lassen County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Pon.
Matt Flores from Lassen Municipal Utility District hung the banner.

Blue Star Moms purchase banners for all of our local, active-duty service members. After the banners are purchased, LMUD volunteers their time and equipment to hang the banners on Main Street.
“The man behind the scenes that works so hard to make this project a success is Cort Cortez,” said Rose. “The Blue Star Moms and our community appreciate his willingness to always help with this project.”
The organization is able to purchase the banners with funds from donations and fundraisers.
The Blue Star Moms will be in front of the Veterans Memorial Hall November 11th collecting donations for military banners.
