BLM Tour of Wild Horse Management Areas

Anyone interested in management of wild horses can join staff from the Bureau of Land Management for a tour through parts of the High Rock Complex of herd management areas on Saturday, Sept. 24th.

The day-long tour leaves at 9:00a.m. from the BLM Surprise Field Office, 602 Cressler St. in Cedarville and returns at about 4:00p.m. Participants must provide their own transportation in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, lunch and water. Reservations are encouraged, and can be made by calling the BLM Surprise Field Office, (530) 279-6101

BLM staff members will describe habitat conditions in various areas and discuss wild horse management objectives for a roundup of excess wild horses planned to begin on Oct. 15th.

The High Rock Complex includes the Bitner, Wall Canyon, High Rock, Fox Hog and Nut Mountain herd management areas about 40 miles east of Cedarville in Washoe and Humboldt counties.

An environmental assessment and other documents pertaining to the proposed roundup can be found on the BLM Surprise Field Office website, www.blm.gov/ca/surprise.
