Bank Teller Arrested for Embezzlement and Elder Abuse

A teller at Susanville’s branch of Bank of America, 37 year-old Kristy Lee Olson of Susanville, has been arrested for theft and booked into the Lassen County Jail on five counts of forgery and financial elder abuse.

According to a press release from the Susanville Police Department the investigation began on December 20th after the department received a report of embezzlement by a Bank of America employee.
The investigation revealed that a bank teller from the Susanville branch of the bank had withdrawn approximately $60,000.00 from a customer’s bank account over a period of about two months.

The victim of the crime is an 87 year-old Susanville woman who banks with the local branch. Olson is free from custody, awaiting a court appearance, after posting $20,000.00 bail.

Police Captain Tom Downing thanked Bank of America investigators for their swift action in reporting this case to the police. He added that, “This should be a reminder to everyone to monitor the activity of your financial accounts.”

The case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney’s office for prosecution.
