Audrey Marie Egan – May 3, 2019

Audrey Marie Egan

Audrey Marie Egan passed away in Elk Grove, California on May 3, 2019 at the age of 85.  She was born on May 12, 1933 in Wauwautosa, Wisconsin to F. Lloyd and Lorraine (Collins) Blank.

Audrey reinvented herself several times throughout her lifetime.  When she was twelve her mother passed away and Audrey moved to San Jose, California with her father and her brother George.  She graduated from Campbell Union High School in 1951 and worked for Metropolitan Insurance Company until she met and married Michael J. Egan, Jr. in 1959.  Michael and Audrey had six children. Shortly after the children were born the family moved to Lassen County and she and Michael established Egan Realty and Egan Ranch in 1970.  Although not from a rural or ranching background she adapted quickly, learning all the necessary skills including driving a tractor, caring for livestock, riding a horse, helping the kids with countless 4-H projects and always making sure the family and help were healthy and fed.  She became a member of California Cowbelles, a 4-H leader, and was the Lassen County 4-H Council treasurer for many years.  She was a tireless supporter of all of her children, ensuring that each completed college in spite of Michael’s passing at such an early age.

After Michael passed away in 1986, Audrey continued to live at the ranch, but also started her career again working at Deal and Davie, the Sierra Army Depot, and Frontier Communications. She achieved an Associate of Arts degree from Lassen College at age 60.  With the family grown, in 2000 Audrey moved to Elk Grove, California and began a whole new career with the State of California Board of Equalization.  She continued to work at that job until September 2018, when she retired at the age of 85.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Michael J. Egan, Jr. and her son, Michael James Egan III.  Audrey is survived by her four sons, David of Reno, Nevada, Daniel (Mary) of Wilton, California, Joseph (Dawn) of Susanville, Richard (Holly) of Susanville, daughter, Lorraine (Charles) Marsh of Arbuckle, California, grandchildren, Michael, Christopher and Matt Egan, Rylie and Emily Egan, Sarah, Carlyn and Jack Marsh, and Nathan Egan. Audrey is also survived by her brother, George Blank, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Anne Baumann, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are welcome to attend the funeral service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Susanville, California on May 25, 2019 at 11:00 am. The funeral home will be Walton’s Colonial Mortuary, 115 South Lassen St, Susanville, 530-257-4414.In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Audrey’s name to the Lassen County Cattlewomen’s scholarship fund.
