Have you ever wanted to learn more about astronomy and astrophotography? Sunday there will be a free workshop where you can learn how to use a telescope and camera to capture some spectacular light from distant stars.

Dr. Owen Bateson and Randall Evans, local star watchers with a wealth of experience in the subject, will be offering tips and techniques for setting up a wide variety of telescopes.

The pair will also teach attendees how to use those telescopes with DSLR and video cameras to capture stunning images of stars that are millions of light years away.

Other topics covered during the free astronomy clinic include planetary science and how to orient yourself at any location to find important stars.

Dr. Bateson’s observatory, southwest of Susanville, is part of the Research and Education Cooperative Occultation Network or RECON, thru the University of Colorado and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Bateson is one of a group of scientific researchers involved in videotaping stellar occultations to help determine the sizes and orbits of asteroids and Kuiper Belt objects.

The astronomy workshop is free to the public and starts at noon, Sunday April 27th, in the Willow Room at the Diamond Mountain Casino.
