Assemblywoman Dahle Welcomes Governor Newsome to Discuss Homelessness

On January 13th, newly elected 1st District Assemblywoman Megan Dahle welcomed Governor Gavin Newsom on his first official stop on a tour that will take him across the state meeting with individuals experiencing homelessness and direct service providers. This follows the release of his 2020-21 State Budget proposal, which includes over $1 billion to address the homelessness crisis afflicting all areas of the state: urban and rural.

The Spirit Peer Enhancement Center and Hospitality House were the nonprofit selected as a model service provider in Grass Valley, serving the unique needs of the rural homeless population through strong partnerships with the community and county.

“Homelessness is not a partisan issue and I look forward to working with the Governor and his team to address homelessness in our rural communities and across the state,” said Dahle.

“Solutions for our communities and local governments will be different than those in more urban parts of the state, and that’s why I’m excited the Governor chose Nevada County and the 1st Assembly District to be the first place he tours after announcing his plan. The fine work of the Spirit Peer Enhancement Center and Hospitality House can serve as a model for other communities, and my priority is ensuring the money promised in the budget to support programs like this gets to rural counties, cities, and service providers in a timely manner to get people back on their feet.”

Assemblywoman Megan Dahle was elected in November of last year. She sits on the Assembly Committees of Appropriations, Education and Water, Parks and Wildlife.
