Annual Fall Colors Ride Set For October 23rd on Bizz Johnson Trail

Mountain bike riders and hikers can enjoy fall colors on the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail without arranging vehicle shuttles, when the Bureau of Land Management and Lassen Rural Bus offer a special shuttle service this Saturday, October 23rd.

Participants should call the BLM at 530-257-0456 to reserve shuttle space.

Riders and walkers should meet at 8:00a.m. at the historic Susanville Railroad Depot, 601 Richmond Road. The bus and bike shuttle will depart at 8:30a.m., and stop at the Devil’s Corral Trailhead, where participants can ride or walk 7-miles back to Susanville.

They can choose the smooth and gentle Bizz Johnson Trail or the more challenging single track Southside Trail.

The route follows the Susan River, crossing multiple times on historic railroad bridges, and traversing through two historic railroad tunnels. Fall colors are expected to be peaking around the time of the event.

The bike ride is ideal for families. The Bizz Johnson Trail route is mostly downhill or flat on a smooth gravel surface. The BLM recommends wide-tired or hybrid bikes. There are separate $2 fees for the bus and the bike shuttle; exact change is appreciated.

More information is available from the BLM in Susanville at 530-257-0456. Information is available at www.lassentransportation.com or by calling 530-252-7433.
