Honey Oil Lab on North Street Explodes Damaging Residence

A Susanville man was arrested Sunday after fire personnel and law enforcement were called to North Street for a reported explosion in a residence.

According to Susanville Police Chief Kevin Jones, officers responded to 1005 North Street to assist the Susanville Fire Department and contact was made with the resident who was identified by police as 33-year old Travis Wayne Gray.

Gray reported that he was the only occupant and had no injuries to himself.

Police officers noticed damage to the north wall of the residence and awaited Susanville Fire Department's response.

When firefighters arrived they identified several Butane canisters around the kitchen area. Upon further investigation, officers discovered large amounts of marijuana shake and evidence of a Honey Oil lab in the home.

"After receiving a search warrant for the residence, the investigation revealed that Gray was using his refrigerator as a lab for Honey Oil," said Chief Jones.

"The lab inside the refrigerator exploded, demolishing the refrigerator, causing a small fire and blowing a hole in the portion of the house where the refrigerator was located."

Gray was charged with 11379.6 Health and Safety Code for manufacturing a controlled substance and being within 300 feet of occupied dwellings. He was also charged with child endangerment due to the number of children present at Memorial Park. Gray was booked into Lassen County Jail on $125,000 bail.
