Multiple lightning fire starts in SIFC area
Crews focus on Day and Bald fires

Crews from multiple firefighting agencies are being dispatched to nearly two dozen reported fires, including significant blazes in eastern Shasta County, following heavy thunderstorms that passed over northeast California Wednesday, July 30.

The largest fire is burning more than 700 acres near the community of Day, northeast of Fall River Mills. An evacuation advisory was issued last night for residents in Day, from the Modoc-Shasta county line to the end of Day Road. The advisory remains in effect today. No structures have been damaged. The fire is 15 percent contained this morning.

The Lassen National Forest is battling the 250-acre Bald Fire, burning timber and brush on Bald Mountain, about eight miles southeast of Fall River Mills. There are no structures threatened.

Fire crews have located 17 fires from 30 fire reports received yesterday afternoon and evening, according to officials at the Susanville Interagency Fire Center. There was heavy rain with most of the thunderstorms, but officials said more fire reports are expected today as conditions dry out.

More information is available from the information office at the Susanville Interagency Fire Center, (530) 252-6450. As updated information is available, it will also be posted on the InciWeb site located at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/.
