Wildfire Update: Bald Fire Shows Extreme Spread Potential

Lassen National Forest is reporting that Bald fire, burning on Bald Mountain in the Hat Creek Ranger District, is showing extreme potential for spreading in an area that has had no recent fire history. Heavy brush along with steep terrain are hampering firefighting efforts. Indirect lines are being set up to contain the blaze.

Road/Area Closures:

Fire officials are asking the public to stay out of the following areas due to safety concerns and firefighting activity:

  • FS 36N18 south to 34N29
  • FS 34N29
  • County Rd. 111 between FS 34N29 and Cinder cone (Popcorn) Rd.
  • Cinder cone (Popcorn) Rd.

High winds and lightning are forecasted to again move through the area this afternoon and evening bringing the potential for more fire activity.

No threats to private property and no evacuations are anticipated at this time.

As of the afternoon update no structures had been threatened and no injuries have occurred as a result of the Bald fire.
