Dr. Bateson, Susanville’s resident meteorological expert, has dismal news to report from the shores of Eagle Lake. Measurements taken this weekend show the lake’s level has dropped more than four inches since September 13th.

BatesonĀ measured the lake levelĀ at 5091.681 feet.

As for the upcoming winter season with its rain and snow? Bateson said that the El Nino conditions,Ā predicted earlier this year by forecasters, will most likelyĀ not occur.

“Instead,”Ā he says, “forecasters now say we are in for another very dry winter. I can only hope that they are wrong and that it turns out to be a wet one.”
