Ways to Help: Boles Fire Devastation in Weed

What started as a tiny grass fire, the kind we see time and again here in Lassen County during the summer, quickly turned into what one resident was quoted as saying, ‘the worst thing to ever happen’ to their town.  Before anyone had time to react flames from a wind-driven wildfire tore through the town of Weed and left nothing but smoking ash where almost 200 homes and businesses once stood.

Wednesday afternoon Lassen County Red Cross Manager Sophia Wages expressed her appreciation to the many community members who have been inquiring as to ways to help the families who have been affected by the devastating Boles Fire.

Eric Kiltz, American Red Cross Disaster Manager of Northeastern California, said the best way to assist those in need is by donating either to:

By mail to: American Red Cross of Northeastern California

2125 East Onstott Road
Yuba City, CA 95991;
Via phone at 673-1460 (Specify Bole Fire);

At redcross.org, select tab: Donate Funds, Choose: “Dedicate your donation to a loved one” (enter Boles Fire);

or Shasta Regional Community Foundation, which is a nonprofit, public charity serving the people of Shasta and Siskiyou counties. Their link is: shastacf.org.

The Community Foundation will work with nonprofit and government stakeholders to ensure funds flow quickly to those most in need and establish safeguards to secure proper distribution of the funds.

One hundred percent of donated funds for the Boles Fire will go directly to provide assistance and fund recovery efforts.

“Again,” said Wages, “thank you to all who continue to give donations to support the many families and individuals who have suffered from this devastating event.”

If you would like to help people affected by these disasters you can make a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief by visiting http://www.redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Contributions may also be sent to our Susanville Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.
