Uptown Pioneer Cemetery Gets New Sign Thanks to LHS Welding Class

Lassen High instructor Mike Somerville and his class of advanced welders in front of the new cemetery sign.

Three years after a big storm and a falling tree destroyed the arch at the entrance to Susanville’s Pioneer Cemetery in uptown, a new sign has been erected, thanks to volunteers and students from Lassen High School’s Advanced Welding Class.

The high school welders, led by instructor Mike Somerville, built the 18-foot arch and spent Wednesday morning at the cemetery installing the masterpiece.

Somerville thanked those who volunteered to help with the project including Matt Wemple who provided necessary equipment.
