sheriffupdateTwo suspects have been arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail on multiple charges related to a break-in at Johnstonville Quality Foods on highway 395 in Johnstonville.

According to details released this afternoon by Lassen County Sheriff Dean Growdon, deputies responded to the store early Monday evening after receiving a report of a burglary to find someone had forced entry into the business causing serious damage to the rear door and a front window.

A large number of items were reported stolen from the store including money, merchandise, a safe, a cash register and a lock box.

The investigation led Deputies to a residence on Anita Drive where two suspects, identified by LCSO as Kody Scovel and Kessler Nogle, were arrested for the burglary. A vehicle used in the burglary was seized as evidence.

A search warrant was obtained and a large amount of the stolen property was recovered at the residence in a 5th-wheel trailer parked on the property where Scovel was living. An adjoining, vacant residence was also searched per the warrant and more stolen items were recovered.

Scovel and Nogle were both booked into the Lassen County Jail. Scovel was charged with burglary, vandalism, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy – his bail was set at $45,000. Nogle was charged with burglary, vandalism, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy, possession of drug paraphernalia and four counts of probation violation, with his bail set at $150,000.

“I would like to recognize the hard work of Sheriff’s Office personnel on this case,” said Sheriff Growdon. “The Deputies who investigated the case, wrote and served the search warrant, and arrested the suspects responsible. The Sergeants who provided oversight and support for the investigation, the crime scene technician who helped with evidence collection and photography and the dispatch center who provided additional support. Everyone pitched in to bring this case together and I applaud their efforts.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to please call the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office at 530-257-6121.
