Take it Slow: Icy Conditions to Blame For Multiple Traffic Collisions

weatherupdate

A blast of cold arctic air following Tuesday’s storm has made driving treacherous tonight on highways throughout the region.  As the storm began to clear temperatures here in the valley plummeted and roads which were already slick have turned to solid ice.

Highway patrol units, emergency crews and towing companies were stretched thin this evening as they dealt with a seemingly unending string of collisions between Susanville and the Nevada border.

As of 11:38 this evening forecasters at the National Weather Service were expecting another band of precipitation to hit the area before 4:00a.m. bringing an additional 1 – 2 inch accumulations.

With much colder air moving into the region, water on untreated roads will refreeze quickly leading to icy areas overnight and Wednesday morning.

Carry emergency supplies and be prepared for travel delays tonight and early Wednesday.
