A 58 year-old Susanville woman was arrested on two counts of possession of methamphetamine Wednesday after police searched her vehicle and found 29 grams of the controlled substance. A warrant had recently been issued for her arrest after law enforcement officers and a K-9 unit discovered 4 grams of meth along with scales and packing material in a locked safe at a home on Alexander Avenue.
According to Susanville Chief of Police Tom Downing, on September 23rd officers from the Susanville Police Department along with members of the Lassen County Probation Department and a K-9 Officer from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, conducted a probation compliance check at a residence in the 400 block of Alexander Avenue.
The search of the residence resulted in the K-9 focusing on a safe indicating the possible presence of narcotics inside. The safe was seized and a warrant was obtained to search the contents.
Upon obtaining the search warrant a Detective from the Susanville Police Department located approximately 4 grams of methamphetamine, packaging material, and a scale that led the detective to believe the methamphetamine was possessed for the purpose of sale.
During the investigation, the detective obtained evidence that led him to believe that it was not the probationer but another resident of the home on Alexander Avenue, identified as 58 year-old Karen Sue Takerian, who possessed the methamphetamine located in the safe with the intention of selling it. A warrant for Takerian’s arrest was sought and issued out of Lassen Superior Court.
On Wednesday afternoon at around 2:15 officers from the Susanville Police Department observed Takerian driving a vehicle in the area of Chestnut Street and Parkdale Ave. After stopping the vehicle and placing Takerian under arrest, her vehicle was searched and officers located approximately 29 grams of methamphetamine.
Takerian was booked into the Lassen County Jail on two counts of possession of methamphetamine for sales. She was held on $50,000.00 bail. The case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
