Special Movie Showing Raises Funds for Firefighter Foundation

IMG_77892917075480Demonstrating once again that Susanville cares deeply for our wildland firefighters, the special showing of Disney’s movie Planes: Fire and Rescue at the Sierra Theatre in uptown Susanville Sunday drew a huge crowd and helped raise money that will be distributed to fallen and injured firefighters through the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

More than 250 people bought tickets to the special matinée – so many that the movie had to be shown in both upper and lower cinemas to accommodate the crowd.

Event coordinator Chris Bunker said that in addition to money raised at the door the group also received two very generous pledges; one from the Diamond Mountain Hotshots and one from the Lassen Hotshots, to match a dollar for each movie ticket sold! According to Bunker a total of $1,562.36 was raised for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

Local businesses contributing to the benefit include Sierra Theatre, Billington Ace Hardware, Engine 55 Modoc National Forest, Johnson’s shoes, Margie’s Book Nook, U.S. Bank, Lassen Ale works at the Pioneer, Hair and Nails by Jess and The UPS Store.

“Turn out was fantastic and we can’t thank the community enough for their fabulous support,” said Bunker. “We want to thank our amazing sponsors again because none of this would have been possible without them.”

Bunker also thanked USFS Engine 84 Tanya Costello with the USFS and Smokey for coming and sharing their time, and Jr. volunteer Janna Bunker for all of her help.
