The U-14 girls Lassen Arsenal were in action again on Saturday, Sept 6th at Riverside Park, against the Anderson Bone Crushers. Anderson started with an offensive push for the first few minutes, winning several corner kicks.  Lassen Goalkeeper, Brittney Patton stepped up to the challenge with a couple of big saves early on.  Once the Lassen defense cleared the ball from their goal area, the offense took over and never looked back.  Led by center midfielder Emma Newton, the Arsenal offense proved too much for the Anderson defenders.  After several near misses, Lassen found the back of the net on a cross by winger Amber Jackson to striker Kristin Zamora, who sent the ball on to a wide-open winger Paige Martin, who put in the only goal of the match.
Anderson made a few offensive adjustments in the second half, but the Lassen defense, anchored by goalie Samantha Magarrell, turned in another half of shutout soccer.   Outstanding performances by defenders Lexi Stevens, Gabi Nielsen, Lily Buhler, Kaylee Dollar, and Allie Magarrell combined to keep the Bone Crushers at bay in the second half.  With the Lassen offense relentless on the attack, Anderson showed great fortitude in keeping the score close throughout the game.  These two teams combined for a great soccer match, with the 1-0 score a testament to the outstanding defense and goalkeeping of both teams.  Lassen Arsenal will be in action at home next weekend at 2:00 pm against the girls from Trinity at Riverside Park.
